For chronic or serious cases, such as diabetes and cancer, the charges are 100% covered by the Sante, though private room reimbursement may be capped. On average it is thought that a patient will face a bill of 500 euros for a hospital stay after state reimbursement. Most of us will have a mutuelle to pick up the balance.
