More on Simply

Val says Just a reminder that although Simply is closing it is being taken over by Carrefour who will still keep their presence on the site near the school. Only the butcher will be moving to the out of town site.

Hello Val,
While I sympathise with Doreen, the fact that Carrefour is moving is overall beneficial to many more people than just the older residents. Ideally we could have kept both supermarkets, but that has not been possible. I had forgotten that Casino had closed!

For those who are elderly or need shopping trolleys, the steep climb up to Carrefour was very difficult in any case. I'm sure these people must have someone who would lend a helping hand  with transport. If not, why not start a 'Shopping Helpers' volunteer group? Someone who is going to the supermarket and could help out with transport and carrying?

We live near the EDF and Camping Roc d'Anglars sites. In the summer months, the number of cars which crossed into the already congested town was enormous before Simply opened! Now, at least, they can walk or cycle along the river and not use their cars or camper vans.

St Antonin depends on its tourist industry so it would not be right to just dimiss seasonal visitors and say we should have a supermarket just for elderly residents. There are plenty of elderly people living this side of the river too - my neighbour being one of them at 86! People also come to Simply from Feneyrols, Milhars, Lexos, Varen and so on without having to cross the bridge.

So let's think positively! We have still got a supermarket which we all need! Let's support it or we'll find ourselves having to trek off to Caussade for a bottle of milk!

Ann ( almost elderly, but not quite!)
