Nous sommes le lundi quatre septembre

So far we have not mentioned la rentrée but it is here today. Thousands of children will be back at school with some confusion over the timetables - four days or five; hours not always convenient to parents; the cost of new back packs and school books and equipment.
Many businesses have closed for a week's holiday after their summer exertions and the Macron government is faced with introducing new labour laws which were so unpopular for Hollande. The popularity of M Macron and his team has plunged over the last two months as left wing voters begin to fear that the "liberal" economic policies will threaten working practices and job security. The regime is expected to introduce tougher immigration rules (or at least try to enforce existing rules) and many changes to benefits and local government will be introduced.
Macron has stated that the "French cannot be reformed", so a revolution is needed. Hollande destroyed his party by doing too little, too late. Will Macron try too much, too quickly?
La rentrée looks to be interesting, but whatever, we dont have the curiously silent Marine at the helm and we expats have the continuing saga of Brexit to worry and entertain us in equal measure.
