Wolves escape in Aveyron

The parc animalier  at Lozere is known for its wolf enclosure. Named les Loups de Gévaudan the park has about 30 wolves, some housed in a scientific area. This part was broken into at the weekend and six beasts escaped, two of which have been re-captured. Wolves are not generally dangerous to humans, preferring to keep away from villages and towns, but are known to take sheep in the area.
The legend of the bête de Gévaudan concerns a series of killings by a large animal thought by locals at the time to be a werewolf.
