Police seek new recruits

Public service recruitment in France is often done by competition, with all candidates attending for an examination. Yesterday, Thursday, was the day for police recruitment competitions. All over France some 40000 aspiring gardiens de la paix attended for the written tests, including 1500 in Toulouse. The local group included 40% women. All candidate are pre-selected from their dossiers and must be aged between 18 and 32, with a minimum education level of baccalaureat. The next step for successful candidates will be a fitness test.
Nationally this is a record level of interest and some 5000 will be recruited over the next two years, mainly replacing retiring agents.
