As usual at this time of year maires want to extend their voeux to their constituents. Friday at 18h30 will see inhabitants of Varen invited to the Salle Claude Teil to hear the maire welcome residents to a new year, especially those newly arrived in the commune. The maire of Varen is also the president of the community of communes, which includes St Antonin. Conversations with the maire seem to make it clear that such a welcome does not necessarily include refugees. Our maire claims to be a socialist, but his sympathies seem to be reserved for French nationals - a sort of "national" socialism. We may give it a miss this year.
