The maire's "voeux" for the Aveyron capital include a general restriction of the speed limit in built-up areas to 30kph. The measure is designed to improve road safety for drivers and pedestrians, but will also have an impact on the environment by reducing emissions. However the practical problems in passing the regulations, changing all the road signs and monitoring the effects mean it could be some time before any changes are seen. Grenoble has become the first city to introduce the measure under the leadership of a green party mayor.
