What do you know about the "English" in Aquitaine?

We know from our school history lessons and Shakespeare’s “Henry II” that there was a strong link between the rulers of England and the French provinces of Aquitaine and Gascony, but what do we really know of the impact of this relationship and the 100 years’ war that it entailed?

Catherine Léglu, director of the University of Reading’s Graduate Centre for Medieval Studies and a specialist in medieval French and Occitan literature, will be giving an illustrated talk on the presence of these “English” rulers, who spoke French and had Norman blood; were they influenced by the Albigensians; did any trace of Occitan culture remain in England? These questions and many more will be covered in the talk at 14h30 (2.30pm) in the Salle des Associations in Laguepie on 14th July.

The talk is free as part of the Occitan University held each year in Laguepie. After a résumé in French there will be a chance for English speakers to meet around tea and cakes.
