The importance of water

Some find it hard to believe that we have a well at Mas del Sol as we are so high up, but years ago it provided the  water. Not that many years ago in fact before 1971 there was no water on tap here, mains water / eau de ville . Water was from the wells and if you did not have a well you took your containers on your cart to Druilhe about 3 kms down the hill, to fill up. Amazingly there are still agriculteurs here with no inside flushing loo, in fact we know of one with no inside loo. The immobiliers ask for their house notes and how many loos do you have? The answer 5; I am sure that would get some raised eyebrows round about. I cannot imagine how hard life must have been without water. We have been moaning about the lack of rain but imagine not being able to turn on  the tap.

Malc says: A good example of sod's law yesterday. We had no water for some hours due to a burst pipe elsewhere and when it returned it was, of course, dirty. So I had the idea to fill up the empty rain barrels until it ran clear again. Duly about 500 litres later the rain barrels were  nearly full - why pay for pouring water down the drain when it can water the garden? Then we had 10 mm of rain, which would have refilled them anyway. Most of that drained away.
