Two grannies saved / Deux mamies sauvées des eaux à Tarascon-sur-Ariège

Two sisters in their eighties ( one 87) were on their way to a repas. They had put new carpets in the car and on the drive passing the fast flowing river, the lady driver got her foot caught between the pedals and the new carpet making her lose control and drive into the river. As it was near the town and lunchtime there were plenty of people around to phone for help. A gendarme hanging on to a tree called in to the ladies to stay calm. One lady replied " that is exactly what we are doing"
The ladies were eventually rescued but were suffering with hypothermia.
It is the second dramatic rescue in the area in just a few days. Late last week, a glider pilot was found in a tree in the Pyrenees after going missing three days earlier.
