20 years to the day since she was named as minister of the environment in a previous government Mme Royal returns to the cabinet as minister for ecology, renewables and energy.
Other notable changes are Arnaud Montebourg becoming finance minister and our Tarn and Garonne MP Sylvia Pinel who is promoted to minister of housing and "territorial equality".
Some of the "elephants" have remained in place: Fabius foreign minister; Le Drian defence minister and perhaps controversially Christianne Taubira the "garde des seaux" - minister for justice.
Some readers will be sorry to see that Najat Vallaud-Belkacem is no longer government spokesperson, but she is still minister for women's rights and sport...
