The eggs are abandonned... or are they?

Yesterday from early morning to night there were no kestrel visits and no tail feathers showing in the hole in the wall. This morning still nothing, the eggs have been abandonned. Who knows what has happened, we had no sightings of kestrels at " kestrel corner" or anywhere round about. We have strangely had a red kite circulating round above the house for the last three days and we wonder if this has frightened off the pair. It has certainly frightened the hens who have spent more time in the barn on the hay, but that could also be because of the weather. This will be the second year for some reason we have not managed to raise chicks. Fifteen years " sans problem" and now this. Last year they decided not to use the space but this year things were underway. We will leave it a couple of days and then get a ladder up and peek at the eggs.
STOP One kestrel is coming again today, perhaps it was put off by the rain yesterday. We really do not know what is happening yet.
