FET presents Under Milk Wood

Saturday 13th August should be a night to remember for fans of British theatre. FET are pleased to be able to bring you the iconic Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas as our next production at the Colombier Theatre. This will be presented by the Dear Conjunction Theatre Company, coming from Paris, where this very production has already met with much
success!

Many of you will remember seeing Leslie Clark in 84 Charing Cross Road in May as well as the Oscar Wilde show last year. With him are four other actors performing all the parts, this is a celebration of beauty, but also of community, of love, of language – and of love of language.
At the start of the story we are admitted into the inner lives of the people of Llareggub, a small seaside village. As they sleep, their dreams and most intimate thoughts are laid open to us. Then the village awakens, and we see the characters busy themselves about their daily round, always mindful of their loves and hates, their desires and their regrets:
Captain Cat reliving his voyages and his conquests; Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, the nag who dictates incessant orders to her deceased husbands; Dai Bread the bigamist baker and his two spouses, the housewife and the gypsy; Organ Morgan obsessed with his music; Mr. Waldo, obsessed with women; poor Polly Garter who can never forget her lost love. These are just a few figures from the sampler of humanity that is Llareggub.
Dylan Thomas explained that this play was conceived in response to the bombing of Hiroshima, as a means of reaffirming the beauty of the world.

This is the largest company we have ever had at the theatre, and as costs will therefore be higher, we are relying on you to fill the house or pass the word!
The show will start at 7pm and the bar will be open from 6pm, serving wine, beer and soft drinks.
