The 14th of July, bastille day and a public holiday. Many villages with fireworks tonight, Najac, Caylus,Villefranche to name a few.
Last night we went to the torch light procession in St. Antonin, with two bands marching around the town. What good fun it was and our boys really threw themselves into dancing and the fun in the halle. A line of young men sitting on the floor passing the first in the line over their heads, with drums banging out a rhythm. All great fun
We met lots of friends, and left just after midnight, exhausted.
On the afternoon I went to the boys to see if they had plans. They had, and it was cleaning our two cars inside and out. So a team with hose pipe, buckets, polish and cloths spent the afternoon working on the cars. They look great now and they have scrubbed of the green algae which was on the black canvas roof.
When Malc and I thanked them, one boy explained, you never had a dirty car in Afghanistan. They get so dusty from the roads a regular job is to clean your car, if you were proud enough to own one.
Wish they were staying longer.
I did laugh on our way into St.Antonin where once again I was asked why we had no boys.
The lad said he had seven brothers and his father had two wives.
I explained girls here were as highly prized as boys and it was one man, one wife.
The lad replied but you have no one to help you and you and Malc need help... he has a point.
