We did remember

Despite the church of St Antonin being an oasis of coldness in the beautiful sunny afternoon it soon filled to hear and take part in the requiem mass in memory of the victims of the Paris shootings a month ago. The service was a traditional requiem mass led by Pere Sylvain, who also chanted a Gregorian requiem with soloist Geof Cryer.
The choir, who sang the various parts of the beautiful Faure Requiem during the service, was drawn from local choirs and groups with one or two freelancers. These included your sub-editor whose desire to participate rather out-weighed his vocal ability, but who was very ably assisted by Gilles Gros who sang manfully over all my errors.
As a scratch choir we were very ably marshalled by Geof Cryer, whose own singing of the baritone solo parts was beautifully moving - it is a pity one cannot applaud during a mass. Marietta Kenkel's lovely rendition of the Pie Jesu during the taking of communion and Genevieve's sensitive playing of the church's fine but idiosyncratic organ also made it  a memorable occasion.
Geof's Restoration Consort will be giving a concert on 23rd December at 6pm (18h).
