When Santa got stuck up...

the bell tower at Calais he got his beard caught in a pulley and broke his ankle. Suspended 15 metres above the ground he had to be rescued and taken to hospital. The descent of the Mairie's bell tower is a traditional Christmas event but this time the mystified children below must have wondered what the good saint was up to.

Organisers pointed out that Santa was a fully qualified climber who had checked out all the anchor points (so it wasn't their fault, guv). Happily either he made a swift recovery or an "autre Pere Noel a pris le relais"
