The fall out starts

Nicholas Sarkozy is said to be about to fire his No.2, Nathalie Kosciusko Morizet (NKM) because of her criticism of the leader's "no pacts" policy ahead of the second election round last weekend. The party did not do nearly as well as it had hoped, targeting 10 regions (including the two "gifted" by the withdrawal of the PS list) and winning 7, but with a much reduced share of the vote. NKM has reacted by wondering if all who disagreed were to be fired. Doubts are emerging in the party about Sarkozy as leader, when polls suggest he is only marginally more popular than Francois Hollande!
In our region the FN leader, Louis Aliot, cleverly arranged his list to ensure that unless the FN came top he would not actually be elected at all (dont ask how!). So he will not be among the 40 FN regional councillors, preferring to keep his seat as a Euro MP.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls may see a re-shuffle of his government, especially if Defence Minister Jean Yves le Drian  and Claude Bartolone, the "speaker" of the National Assembly are obliged to step down to tale their regional seats.
And in the "grande est" region where the PS leader refused to withdraw his list, despite some of his "co-listers" urging him to do so, they did actually obtain 19 seats and some of those urging withdrawal are going to take their seats - leading to others denouncing them and refusing to work with them! Ah, politicians. We suppose that is how a democratic society works.
