When you get your new Livebox make sure you also get a parafoudre (surge protector).
Orange/France Telecom sell these on their website and occasionally give them free as a promotion:

Val says I have been told... what do I know on these things, we had a surge protector which blew just as we were going to unplug it.
Having talked to SFR today they are sending a new livebox and then phone will work. They say it is safe using the lifebox for the internet even though it is flashing that it is over heating.
