Hi Val, an update on the day - such positive stuff amidst a heavy police presence. We as a group of 4 have in the past 2 days managed to house 5 families in winterproof shelters, another structure has been built & will be covered tomorrow. Two Afghan families arrived as dusk fell, both very tearful, one with a baby, the other with a little girl of 1 year, they are top of the list for tomorrow & have been housed for the night in an old caravan that another volunteer is also sleeping in. We hope more helping hands arrive in the morning as Ben, Joe & Danny (who gave us an afternoon) have been so incredible but sadly all had to leave for London tonight... Tomorrow's aim starts with purchasing more wood & plastic, going to the warehouse for size 44 trainers for another lovely Afghan who arrived on site this afternoon in sandals & then back to shelter building, we also have bicycle no 2 to find a worthy home for - Ali from yesterday was waiting this morning in the pouring rain for his promised bike, his smile lit up the day which was made all the more special for many as it was the festival of Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan, a real double whammy for those who were housed. The children of Sally who runs the camp gave us games & pens to pass onto children, the little girl who we gave a pencil case of goodies to drew in her breath in a gasp, i wish i had a photo... some of the other goodies went to a little boy of about 5 yrs whose job for the day was sitting & guarding his families building materials until we arrived with tools... so there you go everyone helps, people who've never used a saw before are cutting wood & proudly making achievements, small drops but all so worthwhile. Thank you, Thank you...
