A review below after the showing of Gatsby at Cannes
The critical reaction when the end credits began to roll was as chilly as the temperature outside: no applause, a lone boo, and a practically audible collective sniff.

The Guardian says
It has divided the critics, who have either praised it for its exuberant, operatic, roaring approach to its material – or derided as a crass, tin-eared rendering of F Scott Fitzgerald's precisely tuned text. But, as The Great Gatsby opened the 66th Cannes film festival, its director and co-adaptor,Baz Luhrmann, defended the film, saying that his chief concern was the healthy box office.
And Val says I am sure it will do well in the box office but that does not make it a good film or a decent representation of the book. Sorry Baz it is a thumbs down from me.
