The Year of the Locusts and now the tick.

Can you remember about seven years ago in the summer the fields were full of crickets, hopping everywhere and the noise of legs being rubbed together was amazing and a bit annoying. We thought it was funny as there was a report in one of the English newspapers ( probably The Daily Mail) saying South West France had a plague of locusts!  It was the year our very young nephews discovered that crickets bite, if you have them in your hand and are contemplating taking off the odd leg or two, they can give you a nasty nip.
To my mind this year is so far " the year of the tick" All herbal remedies with the dogs have failed against the onslaught of as many as three ticks a day on dogs and cats. It takes quite a percentage of the day deticking all our animals. Fortunately Malc and I are remaing tick free. We do have two little yellow tick forks for the removal and it is quite satisfying when you hear the click as the tick is removed. It is important to get the head of the tick else you can end up with a pet with an abcess.
For you non pet lovers, do not think ugh! horrid pets harbouring ticks, if you walk in long grass you could easily find one of the little blood suckers clinging on, often they go for warm private parts ( and as they can cause Lyme's disease believe me that is not too much information.)
