Eurostar launched its London - Marseille service on Friday (1st May), making the south of France accessible in 6 hours at a reasonable price (around £125). The service is straight through, with several en route stops, including Avignon. The company's bookings to Paris fell after the Charlie Hebdo shootings and they hope that British love of the south of France and Avignon's famous arts festival will make the new service successful.
Of course one consequence of Britain's border controls is that return journeys will have to change at Lille and undergo immigration checks.
