Francois Hollande and Ségolène Royale “used me as a tool in their conquest of power”, Valérie Trierweiler claimed on Wednesday, amid reports that Ms Royal has effectively become France’s “vice president”.
In an attack timed to coordinate with the paperback release of Thank you for the Moment, her vengeful memoir on her former relationship with Mr Hollande, Ms Trierweiler said the French president and Ms Royal were once again “indissociable”.
Mr Hollande and Ms Royal were once France’s number one power couple, and had four children together. They split after Ms Royal’s failed bid to become French president in 2007. Mr Hollande then made his long-time affair with Ms Trierweiler official. In reality, they had started seeing each other years earlier when Ms Trierweiler was covering the Socialist Party for Paris Match magazine.
