Donkey derby day

Today for us is going to be all about donkeys. Yesterday Julia discussed they had a field that needed grazing. I need to treat Lucy with her "warty ear" so want her near by. Julia suggested she took her two boys off to the other field, so off she took them. Being a clever dick I said to Malc "it will not work, there will be a break out"
Well this morning nose to nose over the fence when we looked out of the salon window there were the boys. I ran down, put on field shoes and ran to open the fence. The boys galloped up the field with flying hooves and straight in with the girls. So lovely to see them reunited with snuggles, licks, bites, sniffs. The girls will come straight in to season I am sure. God knows how the boys  got out and if they had been all night wandering around.

But the real donkey story will be this afternoon when Coco the rescued donkey will be walking with Jo and Maxime 8 kms from Cambou to Lez.  Please cross fingers we have no troubles with traffic, Malc and I will be following well back in the car trying to slow down traffic on a couple of dangerous bits of the road. Most of the walk will be on quiet lanes but there is no alternative to a bit of the main road. Waiting at Lez will be Coco's new friend. Maxime tells me he lives in the big house opposite the church in Lez, some of you may know it. The donkeys will have many fields behind this house, the family are farmers. I will ask Malc to take photos of the story, it is certainly one we will remember. Not just for making a donkey happy but for all the help and concern people have given and shown.
Yves the marechal ferrant/ blacksmith  twice sorting out his sabots/ hooves for free.
Mimi and Kevin for loaning a fenced field and then spending 3 weeks giving medication and helping to pay for castration.
Jo Stephens for spending hours resocialising and brushing and walking Coco.
Karen for twice transporting him in her horsebox.
For everyone who helped with the cost of castration.
When Coco has a friend and is being trained at attelage they will all deserve big pats on the back.
