80 kph experiment

Several stretches of secondary roads, Routes Nationales without dual carriageways will have speed restrictions to 80kph this summer. Road safety campaigners claim that the government is being cowardly in having such a small experiment, but interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve is thought to be unconvinced that the change would have much impact.
Campaigners claim that a nationwide reduction from 90kph to 80kph would save 400 lives a year, but polls suggest that 80% of motorists are opposed. None of the proposed stretches is in our region.
