The terrible total of thirteen deaths in a bar in Rouen, northern France, was caused according to police by a birthday cake which set fire to the bar's polystyrene ceiling. The private party was in the basement of the bar and revellers were suffocated and unable to mount the exit staircase.
The city of Rouen is again under shock following the murder of the catholic priest there, but this time the maire has emphasised that it is a terrible accident that has befallen so many families.
