I heard a bit of alarming news this morning from a French neighbour and friend. He has his ear to the local ground! He told me that the prefecture at Montauban want to put a stop to the Sunday market on grounds of security. There are more and more immigrants in this area, which is unsettling for many French after the 'attentats', he said.
You'll have noticed a change in the layout of the stalls and the making of a one-way system already last week. Apparently, they are afraid of another attack, similar to Nice, as part of the market lines the main street. Also, of course, it attracts many tourists, being on a Sunday.
He thought that maybe, another solution would be for the authorities to demand it be moved to Place Pradel.
This would be very sad for the town if true.
Has anyone else heard this rumour?

Val says all public gatherings are being monitored but this sounds like real scare mongering to me. Please tell you neighbour and makes sure he passes it on we have had 17 refugees here , that is all 17 in the last year.
All who are the family of Malc and I now and assure your neighbour they are not going to cause any trouble.
There is an active Front National in the area and they could be spreading rumours like this.

This is what the conseil municipal decided on the matter:
Par mesure de sécurité, le maire informait le conseil qu'à partir du dimanche 7 août et jusqu'à fin septembre, la circulation sur le marché, qui draine plus de 1 millier de personnes chaque dimanche, sera réglementée. Pour ce faire, deux feux tricolores seront installés, un feu avenue Paul-Benet, face au chemin des Neuf-Pierres, et le second route de Caylus, à l'angle de la terrasse du Gaspacho. La circulation sur l'avenue Paul-Benet sera alternée sur une voie (celle de gauche en montant), l'autre voie, matérialisée par des barrières, étant réservée aux piétons et à l'installation des commerçants. Les véhicules qui viendront du Bosc ou de Féneyrols par la D 958 ne pourront plus descendre directement vers l'avenue Paul-Benet mais devront emprunter sur leur droite, le long de la place des Tilleuls, devant le cabinet médical, le chemin de Santou qui sera en sens unique.
Sécurité translates as safety of course.
