The wind is fanning forest fires

Those of us who live on higher ground know that there has been a strong "tramontane" (northerly wind) blowing these last few days, and further east the mistral has been funnelling down the Rhone valley. These winds have been causing serious brush fires, sadly some set deliberately, to spread rapidly.
Over 850 hectares of the heights of the Pyrenees Oriental were destroyed yesterday (Thursday) and in the Bouches du Rhone around Marseilles thousands of hectares plus many homes have been destroyed though pompiers say the blazes are now under control. A person has been arrested for causing fires.
The good news is that the winds will die away today and the temperatures are set to rise.
