Would you like a doggy bag, sir?

We often take home bits of a restaurant meal left over, usually for the dogs and it is certainly not uncommon in Britain to ask for a doggy bag. Some years ago in a French restaurant a friend was refused this as the restaurateur was afraid she would be sued if someone was poisoned as a result.
but now an anti food wastage scheme has been launched in Paris with over 100 restaurants offering clients a new sealed box to take away the remains of their meal.
Apparently French people were too afraid of looking stingy (radin) to ask for a doggy bag, but laws on restricting food waste and the cost of disposal have led the Paris city council and the food retailers to think again. It seems that over 60% of meals are unfinished and although the boxes cost 40 centimes they are being financed privately at present. We try to remember a plastic bag in the pocket and our dogs love restaurant meals (please don't write in to tell us how bad this is - when you see what they eat in the fields nothing can be that bad!!).
