Residents of the area around Lourdes have been asked not to worry about the appearance of troops on the streets and lanes in the next few days. The troops will be carrying out exercises and the mairie has warned people not to panic. Apparently a similar event with soldiers on the streets of Montauban last month caused a good deal of panic amongst local inhabitants - though in the aftermath of the Paris atrocities it was not unsurprising.
But as one TAG reader pointed out recently, seeing troops and hearing gunfire is not at all rare to those of us within earshot of the Caylus camp.
