Many of us use the site to see what people think of restaurants or hotels, but can we trust what we read?
A French TV station invented a Paris restaurant, taking photographs and posting reviews. In a short time the fictitious restaurant, the "Beret Rouge" climbed to the top 100 Paris places to eat. Similar false reports have been used before and one hears of rival establishments denigrating each other, or hoteliers paying people to post favourable reviews.
Malc is a "senior reviewer" (exalted status based on 11 local restaurant reviews) but since our choice of restaurants locally is based on "bouche a oreille" (word of mouth - very appropriate) we tend to avoid places where we might be disappointed. So most of his reviews are favourable by and large.
When using Tripadvisor to choose somewhere to stay or eat it usually pays to look at those with many reviews at all times of year, but for every 100 "excellent" reviews there should be the odd "rubbish" to be sure that it's not just the boss's mates posting. We have had several people telling us to try L'Ozone in St Antonin, so today we will try it and a Trip report may follow. Trust me.
