Following the father from Limoges who had a big fine for smacking the bottom of his 9 year old, there is now an outcry by the parents who want the right to smack.
I think the older we are the more we are likely to say " a good smack or clip around the ear from the teacher or local bobby never did me any harm" Sadly many parents can get carried away with a good smack and where is the line between battering and smacking.
We had a family here playing round the pool ( by coincidence a French family )and I was quite shocked seeing a child shook and smacked by the parent. I could see the child was being naughty but prefer " two minutes on the naughty step" approach. When I was younger that hitting shaking incident would have been so normal that it shows how attitudes have changed, and for the better in my opinion. Your opinion could be different but you are never going to write and tell me are you?
