French President François Hollande said Saturday that Leonarda Dibrani, a 15-year-old schoolgirl of Roma gypsy origin at the centre of a high-profile deportation case, could return to France to continue her studies, but without the rest of her family.
“If she makes the request, in view of the circumstances, and if she would like to continue her schooling in France, she will be welcomed back,” Hollande said during a televised press conference in Paris.
Val says - This is really not the answer to calm things down, the girl of course has refused to leave her family and siblings who were also students in France. What is the actual policy on repatriation and how can Hollande bend it and say " oops this has caused a bit of a fuss if I let this girl back in then everything will be sorted " What about the girls' siblings and other children ? How can you say we will welcome this particular girl back but not others. It is one of those stupid and unfair comments I am beginning to lose patience with - maybe I need the holiday
