So you know exactly what I am talking about, the picture shows quite clearly the 3 holes in the wall we had the builders leave; the one on the left of the picture is the ''kestrels nest '' Our superb viewing point is in our salon which is on the second floor of the other house. There is a grassy ramp up to this door and the salon where in years gone by the hay would be stored is now a comfortable big room. Just behind those big glass doors Malc and I have positioned our sofas to face the window and there we sit with binoculars and cameras [when I am not writing TAG] watching the kestrels streak past. They fly at great speed in to that small hole and as one arrives there is a great chitter chattering noise. A noise Bonny our Golden knows so well that when watching a bird programme with kestrels recently she immediately went to the window to see where they were.
We have had our ups and downs with ''will they stay or not'' but as there is so much activity we think they have now settled in. As I took this picture one flew out of the nest and I just missed it.
Malc went up on a ladder last year to look at the nest after the birds left and it is quite a big cavity between the two very thick stone walls but had no nesting material which would fit in with the fact that we never see them taking in twigs or comfy type material .If as we suspect one bird is now sitting on the eggs hatching we will have a 3 or 4 week wait till we see scraggy little heads appearing.
