Hi Val
The "Sécurité à la chasse" team of the ONCFS (Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage) has just published its annual report of hunting accidents recorded between 1st June 2015 and 31st May 2016.
146 hunting accidents were reported, up from 122 last season. 83% of victims were hunters. (HOORAY!)
Shotguns were involved in 59% of accidents, semi-automatic weapons in 31% and other weapons 10%.

There were 10 fatalities (14 last year) including three vehicle accidents (those white vans rushing around and falling into ditches) and two non-hunters.
The next hunting season in the Tarn et Garonne is from 11th September 2016 to 28thFebruary 2017. However under some circumstances special licences may be issued in some communes to hunt deer from 1st June to 10th September and sanglier from 1st June to 14thAugust, the so-called “tir d’été”. Similarly special licences can sometimes be given to hunt sanglier right through from 15th August to February but I have never witnessed these off-season hunts in the 21 years that we have been coming here.
Best wishes
John
