To swap or not to swap?

Hi Val

So the Book Swap is to take a two month rest, while the Parisot
Festival of Literature builds up stocks of books to sell, and Book
Swappers run low on reading matter.

People swap books at the Gazpacho every 4-5 weeks, so it follows that
what they take away is likely to last them a month. Based on that, you
would imagine a one month pause, not two, would be enough to send them
running to the Parisot Festilit for their supplies.

I like the idea of having just a coffee and get together in September,
when Spiced Cuisine won't be affected as they are on holiday anyway.
But for October, why not revert to a normal Book Swap - now a bit of
an institution, and particularly pleasant when held outdoors in the
Summer months? It seems a shame to call an early halt to that this
year - if we restart in November we are likely to be shut indoors
again for the Winter...

I can see the value of doing a favour to benefit the Festilit, and
helping them build up funds to attract even better known writers to
give talks. However a one month gap seems to me a fair compromise
against the two months requested.

What do other TAG readers think?

Val says I think that seems like a fair compromise. We do and will support the Parisot Literary Festival but the strength of feeling for continued book swaps made one realise there is more to the swap than just the books.
