Our morning walk

One of the pleasures of living here is our morning walk along the lanes, watching the colours change in autumn and hearing the acorns and chestnuts drop. This morning it was the sound of high velocity rifles, very very close. I continued after hearing two very close shots but on the third and fourth even nearer I shouted the dogs and we quickly marched at the double back home.
Three hunting deaths in Midi  Pyrenees already and it is just the start of the season. I do not want to become one of the stats making it four. I read one of the deaths was from a  bullet ricocheting, and the hunter  who fired was very sorry!
I got back and Malc said " they should not be allowed to hunt on  Sundays" Listen if I was shot it would not matter to me what day of the week it was.
Do not think that all the  French are in favour of the hunt, they are not. Many like us think the risks too great.
An organised paid ranger service taking the " sport" out of it to cull animals when necessary is my preferred option.
