An eleveur of pintades (guinea fowl) in the Gers is to sue the army after a low flight from a helicopter spread panic in his flock. The birds tried to flee and in their terror more than 60 either died of fright or suffocated in the stampede.
The crump of mortar fire from the camp at Caylus; the crash of low flying air force jets and the noise of helicopters and transport planes are all sounds familiar to us in this part of the world. They are part of the price we pay to have our armed forces trained and ready but sadly the pintades didn't know that.
