Perhaps the wrong time of year to give you this information but file it away for next year.
At Varen there is a free camping ground in a lovely setting next to the river, the Aveyron.
It has lovely shady spots under poplars and is just a stones throw from the boulangerie, bar and shop. It has a toilet, water and a shower, probably cold.
If you had friends passing through the area with tent, caravan or camper van think of telling them about this site. if they have their own canoes there is even a river launch area.
It is a shame it is under used and as we often go walking the dogs down there know of only one family from Figeac who come for their holidays. It does lack electricty points but with candles and storm lights and a gaz cooker one could manage.
it is called Aire de Bivouac at Varen, minutes away from the restaurant the Moulin de Varen.
