Thrown in the Garonne when refusing to give a cigarette

An elderly lady ( actually 67, in these times of 70 being the new 50, not old at all) was thrown into the Garonne by a couple of young lads for refusing to give a cigarette. Imagine how cold the Garonne must be. The attack was witnessed by someone from an apartment nearby who phoned the pompiers and on arrival a pompier risked life and limb to make the rescue and the lady was rushed to hospital. I wonder if in Toulouse the pompiers are paid, being a city they might be. ( Malc says they will be)
Here in Varen and all the surrounding areas pompiers do the job for the love of helping people and are not paid fireman as in England.
