The high-speed lines linking Bordeaux and Toulouse and Dax, essential if the TGVs are to take full advantage of their speed, took a step closer yesterday. The Minister of Transport will issue a "public interest" decree that the lines be built and will begin consultations on timing and finance. A full speed TGV will be able to do the Toulouse/Paris trip in 3 hours, as opposed to 5 hours 20 minutes now. The line to Dax will speed up links to Spain on the west coast, and the Toulouse link eventually can be extended to Barcelona via the east coast.
