Restaurant hygiene results to be made public

It seems reasonable that the public should be aware of unhygienic practices in all food based establishments, but restaurateurs are unhappy about a new system coming into force on July 1st. Not only restaurants, but canteens, food processing factories, even abattoirs will be rated from "very satisfactory" to "urgent rectifications needed" in four stages, with relevant "smileys". The reports will be published by the ministries and open to public scrutiny.
Industry bodies are afraid that less than top scores will be reported on such sites as Trip Advisor and never changed, despite efforts by the establishments concerned and will adversely affect business.
On the other hand as regional restaurants are inspected on average once every 10 years it will be a long time before a full list is available and it is likely to be pretty out of date most of the time. In a pilot scheme in Paris only 34% were rated "good", 54% "acceptable" and 8% "must improve".
