Who has the baseball bats?

Police car attacked
The public seem to be still generally favourable to the protests, but the actions of "casseurs" who seem to be present at all the demos are causing many to lose sympathy.
The tradition of attacking the police and breaking windows etc seems to well entrenched in French culture, but even we were shocked to see two policemen's lives endangered when their car was attacked in Paris yesterday. Windows smashed, car set alight, car and occupants beaten with metal bars - all watched by numerous by-standers filming it with their phones.
A majority of the public think that the government is not firm enough with the casseurs who as so often are hi-jacking the peaceful protests.
But we are also inured to the CRS taking a hard line against any demonstration and some peaceful union protesters were shocked to see police members of the SO (services d'ordre) armed with baseball bats and pick handles as they took up place to deal with the manif.
