Last year and the chicks

We love our animals and birds at Mas del Sol and last year our brood of 5 kestrel chicks were raised as they have been for many a year in the side of the gite wall. When we had the house pointed we made sure the three holes that the kestrels use were kept clear. This is the first year I managed to see into the nest with eggs. The nest is barely a few feathers and leaves on the hard rock inlet. The chicks do not seem to mind and once hatched grow quickly, feasting on mice and crickets and only rarely the odd little bird.
We know from the way the two birds are now flying in and out the young birds must have hatched but so far have been too busy to spend time photographing.
The kestrels called faucon crecerelle in French are like part of the family now and it is a joy each spring when they arrive and start the breeding cycle once again.
When we are dead and gone, they or there descendants will still be arriving having chicks, bringing up the brood, teaching them the skills to survive and so it goes on.
Somehow very comforting in this balmy world " nature "
