Calling all TAG readers. Please be very aware of industrial
action in France before undertaking long road journeys at the moment! We drove
from Najac to Calais unsuspectingly this weekend and when we came to refill our
petrol tank for the last lap of the journey were unable to do so. Even the
haulage firm we called to ask if he could tow us to the nearest port told us he
was completely out of fuel himself. The action is said to be spreading across
France in the next days. Currently it is patchy. Good luck!
Report from BBC News
Sally
The CGT union has called for all refinery workers to join an indefinite strike against the new labour laws, until the government withdraws the bill. The blockades and strikes around the refineries, mainly in the north. is spreading to other areas.
HGV drivers who are also blockading certain points want their overtime hours protected in addition; employers want to limit payments to 10 hours instead of 25 hours as at present.
