The lady on the balcony in Les Vacances de M. Hulot was the actress Nathalie Pascaud. I learned recently on the Jacques Tati appreciation page on Facebook that he was so keen to have her in the film, playing Martine, that he cast her husband as M. Schmutz so that they wouldn't be separated during the filming.
Would you consider Jacques Tati films for your cinema evenings? I have them all on DVD. After M. Hulot, the one that impresses me most is Trafic - and I am especially fond of Mon Oncle.
