Nightmare on Ligne 1

Thousands of passengers were trapped in the rush hour in the Paris Metro Ligne 1 when an electrical failure caused 12 of the 41 trains used on that line to be stop in mid-journey, in the tunnels. The line is used by about 750000 passengers each day, serving many of Paris's main tourist areas.
The line is automatic, with no drivers or conductors, and trapped passengers had no idea what had happened. Eventually they were rescued and had to walk along the dark tunnels to stations. The line is still closed this Saturday morning.
