Nous sommes le jeudi huit septembre

A cooler morning, what a relief, never thought I would be glad of a cooler day.
The forecast is only cool for today and then back to the hot weather.
Perhaps a day for me to clear the weeds and brambles from touching electric line in the donkey field, wearing wellies and hoping I do not meet those autumn creepies aoûtats ? Those little red spider/ mites that make you so itchy.
"August  and September  -  the height of summer, but also the height of the biting season. Everything seems to be out to get you this month – mosquitoes, horseflies, ants, ticks – and the very annoying aoûtat. This is its nickname, taken from août – French for August – as it’s now it makes its appearance.
But don’t panic. The aoûtat is actually trombicula autumnalis (harvest mite). It’s a  member of the acari family i.e. ticks and mites. It’s a nasty little critter, even though it’s only 3mm long. It starts its life cycle in the grass but later is more than happy to hop onto a passing warm-blooded host. These mites have little drilling tools in their mouths which they use to latch on and dig in. They leave a very large and itchy lump behind.. Aoûtat bites last for about a week and can give rise to a mild fever. "
