Victor Hugo re-opens

The famous Victor Hugo food market opens its doors again today, Friday 1st September, after a month closed for the first phase of the building's modernisation. Work will continue in the building until November 2018 and will be closed again next August.
All the restaurants on the first floor have had their kitchens modernised and over the next year the car park will be altered to make bigger spaces and the entrance/exit will be changed and new lifts installed.
The surrounding streets will be pedestrianised by November 2019. One area not usually seen by the public is the cellar, which has been used to store produce in cold rooms for the merchants. All this has been dismantled and until the work is complete cold stores will be outside the market - guided tours will be available to the vaulted 19th century cellars for those  interested.
The fish monger has extended and modernised his stand.
