Le Petit Cafe in Les Cabannes 05 63 56 02 51

Hi Val

When we had our first holiday house near Vaour 25 years ago, our favourite place for lunch was Chez Babar in Les Cabannes.  In those days the owner’s two daughters Graziella and Bénédicte sometimes helped to serve in the school holidays.  A few years ago Graziella and Bénédicte took over the business and renamed it Le Petit Café.

I went today for the first time for about 10 years and it was just as good as before.  Graziella has now moved on to do something else but Bénédicte Barbieri is in charge and her mother is still running the kitchen.

The food was as good as ever and all home-made.  For the €13 menu du jour, I had soup, very nice bread, starter, choice of main course, cheese or dessert (choice of) and ¼ litre of nice red wine.  Coffee and any other drinks are extra. You can sit at various tables set for two, four or six, or join the local workers, as I did,  on the long wooden refectory table – just as it was 25 years ago.

Also, just as 25 years ago, soon after you sit down the soup and bread arrive, cold water is already on the table and only then are you asked what you want to drink and your choice of main course.  For this service, unchanged in 25 years, I give a score of 6 out of 5 !  For everything else 5 out of 5.

They also have a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/lepetitcaferesto and you can read the interesting family history at:

They also have frequent music events and tonight our old friend from Najac, the jazz singer Valerie Mertz is performing with friends from 19h30.
